1. Introduction: Tarkan’s Summer Offensive
In August 2014, during a period of excitement for the music industry, Tarkan launched the single “Hop De”, an audacious and immediate track that overturned public expectations. The song is Tarkan’s debut on İskender Paydaş’s album “Zamansız Şarkılar II” (Timeless Songs II).
2. The Harmony of the Immediate and the “Chamber Voice”
The track is based on the harmony of candid and “instantaneous” phrases like “Hop de”, “hele durum çak” (come on, grasp the situation), and “kop gel” (break away and come). Despite the simplicity of the phrases, Tarkan’s interpretation elevates the piece. In particular, Tarkan sings the entire song with his characteristic “chamber voice” (an intimate and contained vocal technique) which, as in other audacious tracks in his repertoire (e.g., “Seviş Benimle” from the album “Aacayipsin”), manages to convey unique courage and confidence.

3. Lyric Analysis: Conquering the Stubborn Lover
The lyrics, written and composed by Tarkan himself, are a direct and passionate invitation to a stubborn partner to abandon pride and surrender to the relationship. It is a warning not to waste time and an affirmation of the singer’s unique value:
“Hop De” (Translated Excerpt)
Free yourself from those demons, keep them away from your mind. Your brilliant ideas will eventually make you fall into the trap. Lower that stubborn head of yours a little, beauty! Open the door, I’m about to enter. Tear this blind pride apart and come. If you can’t overcome yourself, let me bring you back to your senses. Say “hop” to yourself, say “hop” for a moment. Break away, come on, break away from your stubbornness.
4. Additional Details: Production and Video
The arrangement of the track was handled by İskender Paydaş. The video clip, directed by Murad Küçük, was filmed entirely inside the historic Adile Sultan Palace. The filming, which lasted just one day, featured Tarkan accompanied by part of his orchestra, enhancing the majestic atmosphere and the visual impact of the project. The enthusiasm for the track was immediate, with a clear and obvious desire from listeners to “turn up the volume” right from the day of its debut.
