While working in the studio on another piece, inspiration struck him, and the song took shape in just two hours. Together with his long-time collaborator, Ozan Çolakoğlu, they were so struck by its beauty and energy that they made a bold choice: “Vay Anam Vay” would not only be included but would dictate the “metamorphic” style of the album, influencing its musical direction and leading to the exclusion of tracks that didn’t align with its essence. This single is, therefore, the true pulsating heart and turning point of Metamorfoz.
The music video for “Vay Anam Vay,” launched in Turkey on January 15, 2008, is a visual masterpiece that amplifies the song’s intensity. Filmed in 2007 at the iconic “İstanbul Film Sokağı” studios, it was directed by Kıvanç Baruönü, a name known as a master of special effects, celebrated for his work on the successful Turkish science fiction film “G.O.R.A.” starring Cem Yılmaz. The filming, lasting just one day, was primarily executed using complex bluescreen techniques, creating a surreal atmosphere that perfectly complements the anguish and passion expressed in the lyrics. Tarkan’s partner in the video was Liraz Dror, who helped weave the visual narrative of this hidden love.
The impact of the Metamorfoz album was immediate and overwhelming. With “Vay Anam Vay” as its leading single, the album sold an impressive 300,000 copies in the first week of its release, earning diamond certification, as per the standards of the Turkish music industry. Released in Germany on February 1, 2008, under the Urban label (a Universal Music company), the album was also distributed in a special format that included the “Vay Anam Vay” music video, allowing fans to fully immerse themselves in this multisensory experience.
