The Colossal Production and the Perfect Triad
“Öp” (Kiss Me) was the second single released from Tarkan’s 2010 album, “Adımı Kalbine Yaz” (Write My Name in Your Heart). This track is the result of an exceptional creative partnership that reinforces the winning team in Turkish pop music:
Lyrics: Co-signed by Sezen Aksu and Tarkan himself.
Music: A collaboration between Ozan Çolakoğlu and Tarkan.
The launch of the “Öp” music video was a major event. Directed by Nadir Bekar and produced by D Production, it proved to be a multi-planned, high-budget project. Filming took place in 10 different locations and lasted for 3 full days, involving an impressive team of 130 people as part of the cast.
In the video, the Turkish Megastar, elegantly dressed in a tuxedo, invites viewers to trace sections of his life through evocative images. This visual narrative immediately captivated the public, so much so that the video registered 92 thousand views in the first 12 hours of its release, once again confirming Tarkan’s enormous impact.
Lyrical Analysis – Self-Awareness and Irresistible Desire
The lyrics of “Öp” are divided into two main themes: the narrator’s belated self-awareness and the almost poetic description of the irresistible desire for the lover.
[The Theme of Self-Recognition and Karma]: The first stanza reflects on personal growth and the purification of the past. The Turkish idiom “like liver and lamb roll” emphasizes a total inseparability, in this case, between Tarkan’s past and present:
Who is this new me? I look in the mirror, is this my new me? I met myself. My yesterday and my today are one and the same (like liver and lamb roll – inseparable). It’s late, but the karma of my past has been cleansed. You washed away my sins as if your innocence were an angel come from heaven.
[Burning Desire]: The second part is a passionate and direct physical description that culminates in the imperative of the title. The text is a celebration of beauty, a sensual and urgent Carpe Diem:
*I can’t get enough of that cascading hair, those crescent eyebrows, those pure honey lips, kiss me, kiss me, kiss me. * That neck is white as milk, come out and don’t obey the devil, look, look I couldn’t stop myself.
The inclusion of the “Öp” (Gürcell Club Mix) (duration: 5:07, Remix: Gürsel Çelik) underscores the further success on radio and in clubs, amplifying the sensual message of the track.
3. Conclusion: Visual and Musical Dominance
“Öp” is a triumph on multiple fronts: musically, thanks to the perfect alchemy between the talents of Sezen Aksu, Ozan Çolakoğlu, and Tarkan; and visually, thanks to a music video production that set new standards for quality and spectacle in the Turkish landscape.
The video’s immediate success and its intimate narration, where Tarkan metaphorically shares sections of his life, strengthen our mission of valorization, solidifying Tarkan’s image as a global icon capable of balancing lyrical depth and pop spectacle.
