2010 marked the release of “Sevdanın Son Vuruşu” (The Last Strike of Love), a Tarkan single that captured the heart of the Turkish public with a story of rediscovery and homage.
This track, included in his acclaimed album “Adımı Kalbine Yaz” (Write My Name in Your Heart), has an almost fairy-tale genesis. The song’s lyrics were written by the legendary Turkish songwriter Aysel Gürel, who sadly passed away in 2008. After her death, fate had it that the lyrics were found forgotten in Gürel’s apartment by a new tenant.
With the permission of Gürel’s daughter, Müjde Ar, Tarkan decided to compose the music for these lost lyrics, giving new life and immortality to a work by the great poetess.
Launched for the first time on the internet in May 2010, the track immediately conquered national radio stations, receiving huge acclaim. Its popularity was such that the album was subsequently sold in an innovative format, included on a 2 GB microSD memory card, a sign of the times and the digital impact of Tarkan’s music.

Aysel Gürel – The Explosive Soul of the Word and the Lyrical Analysis
Aysel Gürel: The Explosive Soul of the Word (1929-2008) Gönül Aysel Gürel was an iconic figure in Turkish culture. Not only was she a prolific lyricist whose words gave life to countless hits, but also an actress and an eccentric personality famous for her extravagant style: flashy clothes, bold makeup, and colorful wigs.
Her life and art were an ode to freedom of expression. “Sevdanın Son Vuruşu” is a testament to her lyrical genius, made immortal thanks to Tarkan’s interpretation.
Lyrical Analysis: The War of Farewell The song “Sevdanın Son Vuruşu” describes the intense and definitive end of a passionate love. In the track, the author uses the powerful metaphors of nature and war to convey the intensity and finality of the breakup. The farewell is represented as a final attack, a “last strike.”
Do you hear the chains breaking in my heart? Breathless, tonight, this is the last strike of love. Have you ever felt this way?
The narrator states having tried to start over (“I bowed my head to love again”), but the relationship is over. The most powerful and definitive image is that of personal warfare:
You can’t love after me anymore, you burned yourself out. I pulled the blind bullet you shot out of my heart.
3. Conclusion: The Triumph of the Legacy
“Sevdanın Son Vuruşu” is not just a commercial success; it is a piece that honors the history of Turkish music. Tarkan, not only as a performer but also as the music composer, proved to be an artist deeply rooted in his culture, capable of bringing a lost masterpiece back to life.
This track, a union between Gürel’s lyrical genius and Tarkan’s musical sensitivity (and Ozan Çolakoğlu’s arrangement), solidifies Tarkan’s image as an artist who adds value to the Turkish cultural heritage, in full consistency with our mission.
