This phenomenon sparked a massive cultural debate in the media of the era, perfectly captured by the famous print headline: “İbo mu Tarkan mı?” (Ibrahim Tatlıses or Tarkan?). The press and music critics began to wonder who, between the ambassador of tradition, İbo, and the unstoppable pop innovation of Tarkan, would have the strength to export Turkish music to the world and cross national borders.
